This album is dedicated to Dave Hayes, whose pedal steel is still ringing out in our ears and hearts.

I grew up going to a spot during low tide called, Branchport Creek (behind Pleasure Bay Apartments), hidden away from adults, cars, and anything that reminded me of responsibility. We’d play outside without phones in our pockets (we were of the last generation without them), and walked back filthy when it was simply, time to go--usually first to the gas station for snacks. Mud is elemental, and everyone looks the same with it on their skin. It holds years of information, invaluable species, and quietly and humbly exists on the bottom, as a foundation for life. The mud that we played in as kids is the place we really knew ourselves. It’s where we didn’t have to have an identity, and it’s where we got free.
